Mangalore, Dec 16: Jana Nudi Sahithya Sammelan has resolved to keep 'Nadu-Nudi' away from capitalist forces and also to oppose superstition, casteism and atrocities on women.
The Convention has also resolved to demand the government to introduce the Anti-Superstition Bill at the earliest in the state.
The resolution was passed during the valedictory programme of 'Jana Nudi' which was held at Kalanngan at Shaktinagar over the last two days under the theme 'Nudiyu Siriyalla Baduku'. The valedictory programme was presided over by K Neela.
Addressing the gathering K Neela said that 'Jana Nudi Convention' was an alternative platform to commemorate the legacy of struggle of this region and also an alternative to the pompous and elaborate literary meets being held in the region spending crores of rupees.
Continuous movement
Senior journalist Dinesh Amin Mattu said that Jana Nudi is a continuous movement because Jana Nudi has the responsibility of weakening all those forces which are against democratic forces.
He recalled that when Devraj Urs was the chief minister of Karnataka, he had put an end to several superstitious beliefs and practices. However, he opined that this time, a systematic strategy is at work to prevent the implementation of Anti-Superstition Bill.
“The coastal belt which was once a cradle of peace and harmony is unfortunately being used as a laboratory for communal unrest and 'Gujarat model' of development. It is rather disheartening to see that the administration is run by private hands here,” he said adding that Gujarat model of development has no concern for human beings and humanity.
He further said that there are certain forces which have been opposing development schemes aiming the poor and minority.
“There is immense opposition to 'Shaadi Bhaagya' Scheme of the Congress but, there were no objections to the 'Shaadi Mahal' programme of B S Yeddyurappa,” Mr Amin said adding that another dangerous trend prevailing at present is attaching cultural colours to commercialization of education.
Preaching of Narayana Guru lost
Speaking about Kudroli Gokarnatheshwara temple and the development that has taken place there, Mr Amin said that the developments lack the spirit and preaching of Brahmashri Narayana Guru.
“Brahmashri Narayana Guru spoke of simplicity, which is nowhere to be seen in the temple. All the rituals are held in a rather pompous and larger than life manner, which is exactly in contradiction to the preaching of Narayana Guru,” he said adding that though some good work like appointment of widow priests have been done, elaborate rituals and celebrations have somewhere led to forgetting the real meaning of Narayana Guru's teachings.
