Udupi, Mar 3: Former Udupi-Chikkamagaluru MP K Jayaprakash Hegde is likely to join BJP on March 8.
Hegde, who who was expelled from the Congress party in December 2015 after he contested the Legislative Council election from the local bodies constituency in Udupi-Dakshina Kannada as a rebel candidate, said he has received a letter from the state BJP to join the party on March 8.
“I?am consulting my supporters and will make an official announcement in a few days,” he said.
BJP ?sources said the party is planning to capitalise on Hegde’s ‘sway’ over voters from Bunts community in coastal districts during the Assembly polls next year.
It could be recalled here that after his defeat in the Legislative Council polls, Hegde, in a press meet had expressed his willingness to contest the next Legislative Assembly elections from Udupi district as an Independent candidate.
A practicing advocate, Mr Hegde has been elected thrice to the Karnataka Legislative Assembly from the Brahmavara constituency and served as Minister holding various portfolios during Janata government.
