Bengaluru, Jan 2: The Janata Dal(Secular) National President and former Prime Minister H D Devegowda has convened a meeting of the party’s senior leaders on Jan 4 to chalk out strategies for the 2019 Lok Sabha election.
According to party sources, senior party leaders including Karnataka Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy, State President H Vishwanath, former Legislative Council Protem Chairman Basavaraj Horatti, party MLAs, MLCs and Ministers in the JD(S)-Congress coalition government will attend the day-long meeting.
The meeting assumes importance as it was held after party Supremo Deve Gowda has demanded the coalition partner Congress to allocate about one third of the Lok Sabha seats for his party to fight the election unitedly.
JD(S) candidates, who had unsuccessfully contested in the May Assembly elections, were also invited to the meeting.
Shortlisting the potential candidates to be fielded in the coming Lok Sabha elections, restructuring the office bearers and holding meeting of the party workers at district and block level are among the issues which would be discussed at the meeting.
