Kathmandu, Dec 29: A Jet Airways flight from Mumbai to Kathmandu on Monday made an emergency landing after one its engines caught fire when a bird hit its left wing, reports said.
All passengers and crew members are safe, an official at the Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) in Kathmandu said. Engineers from the airlines company are trying to repair the damage, the official said.
The Boeing 737-800 was scheduled to land at 11.20 a.m., but it took off late from Mumbai. It landed in Kathmandu around noon after the bird strike.
Bird strikes at the TIA and in its vicinity are not uncommon. They have caused a number of mishaps and emergency landings in the past.
