Mangalore, July 13: A Jewellery shop Kinnigoli near Mulky was burgled on Wednesday night. Gold and silver ornaments worth Rs.8.2 lakh were taken away, according to a police complaint filed by shop owner Prithviraj Acharya.
As per his complaint, the miscreants entered his shop by bending the shutter bars. They took away 8 kg of silver and 271 gm of gold ornaments. The displays were broken and gold jewellery and silverware including idols, gift articles were stolen.
Shop security guard Vijay had gone his hometown Kilpadi when the incident occurred.
The police suspect that the burglars could have kept a close watch on the shop for days, as it was not a “coincidence” that they struck on the watchman's day off. Close circuit television cameras installed at the store showed burglars entering the store between 1.58 a.m. to 2.35 a.m., the police said.
They have started search for the thieves on basis of modus operandi used in the theft. “We have started identifying probable suspects in the incident," said an investigator.
