Mangalore, Nov 30: The local residents, due to presence of mind successfully caught Yogesh, a youth who was facing charges of stabbing a young girl named Ranjitha (20) to death, on Saturday at Kadekar in Malpe. With this the three day long manhunt of the police has ended, thanks to aware general public.
Yogesh, a jilted lover was absconding after stabbing Ranjitha on November 27 and accordingly police formed 8 teams to nab him.
However, on Saturday morning the local residents spotted a car covered in tarpaulin sheet, suspiciously parked near a house. When one of the locals pulled off the sheet, Yogesh was found hiding in the car.
Though he launched a bid to escape, it went futile as the locals managed to nab him instantly. He was immediately handed over to the police.
Since Yogish had suffered injuries on the leg and was evidently weak and fragile, he was shifted to Ajjarkad hospital for Medical examination.
Malpe SI suspended for inaction
Udupi Superintendent of Police Dr Boralingaiah has confirmed the suspension of Malpe SI in connection to this case. It is said that suspension has come in wake of allegations from Ranjitha's family and Dalit Sangharsha Samiti that the incident could have been averted if the Malpe SI had taken action against the youth when the family had first approached the SI and filed complaint against him, several months before the unfortunate attack took place.
It is said that the family had given a complaint against Yogesh on September 28. To this, the SI had responded on October 1 saying that he will nab the youth if he stalks Ranjitha again.
A week prior to the murder too, the family had approached the police, and also on the night before the incident. However, the police did not detain or arrest Yogesh.
