Bantwal, Jun 13: In spite of the extension of prohibitory orders under section 144 of criminal procedure code across the Bantwal taluk till June 16, the communally sensitive Kalladka town has witnessed violence once again.
A riot like situation prevailed in Kalladka as after a verbal altercation between two youths snowballed into a major group clash while miscreants pelted stones at shops and houses belonging to minorities in the town.
Ratnakar Shetty, a local leader of Hindu Jagarana Vedike, got himself admitted to a hospital in Puttur with minor hand injuries. Khaleel, son of Abu Salih was admitted to a hospital in Thumbey with multiple injuries. It is learnt that they suffered during a group clash following a verbal fight between the two.
Meanwhile, miscreant belonging to communal outfits pelted stones at some shops owned by Muslims in other part of the town. It is learnt that the trouble mongers also pelted stones at policemen who were trying to bring the situation under control.
Following the clashes, entire Kalladka town came to a standstill as all the shops were shut down and auto-rickshaws too remained off the roads.
Police have stepped up security measures in Kalladka town after the clashes. Dakshina Kannada SP Bhushan Gulabrao Borase has camped in the town.
It could be recalled here that the prohibitory orders were clamed in entire Bantwal taluk on May 27, a day after two Muslim youths were stabbed by a group of notorious Hindutva activists, who had recently released on bail after being arrested in connection with an attempt to murder case.
