Bengaluru, Dec 4: Opposition leader and Congress Legislature Party leader Siddaramaiah on Tuesday accused the BJP of “spending crores” to lure voters in the bypolls, but insisted that it “would not work”.
“Voters are fed up with turncoats and have decided to teach them a lesson,” Siddaramaiah said. “During my campaigns in the 15 segments, voters told me BJP functionaries have got cash from Mumbai. But I’m sure they will vote for Congress.”
His party colleague and Kanakapura MLA, DK Shivakumar, also made the same allegation, claiming the saffron party is offering “thousands of rupees per vote”.
“Everybody knows the BJP has spent crores of rupees for these elections,” Shivakumar said. “Yediyurappa and the home minister were both shocked after seening the intelligence department report. They have realized people will vote against all the disqualified MLAs and are desperately splurging money to woo voters. You [voters] take money from them, but vote for the Congress. BJP notu, Congress ge votu [take BJP notes, vote for Congress]. Do not forget this slogan.”
Meanwhile, BJP’s Chikkaballapura candidate K Sudhakar accused the JD(S) of “spending crores” to get him defeated. “I know for a fact that the party has brought a moneybag to contest against me. He is trying to woo voters with cash.”
