Bengaluru, Dec 3: With the Central Water Commission having given green signal to the Rs 5900 crore Mekedatu water project across Cauvery river on Karnataka-Tamil Nadu border, the state government is will soon submit the detailed project report, Karnataka Water Resources minister D K Shivakumar informed here on Monday.
Speaking to newsmen, the minister said that he will a lead team of engineers, experts and forest officials to the proposed project site on December 7 for an on-site survey in the Cauvery basin.
Referring to the objection raised by riparian Tamil Nadu state for the project, the minister said that “We will convince our neighbors as it will not harm their interests by constructing another reservoir”.
He said that state government had plans to store about 64 tmc of water in the proposed dam, which would be beneficial both to the states.
“We will submit a detailed reply if receives notice from the Supreme Court on the plaint submitted by the Tamil Nadu objecting the Mekedatu project.
