Bengaluru, Nov 25: Former chief minister and JD(S) Legislature Party leader HD Kumaraswamy on Sunday suggested his party has kept the option of a tie-up with the Congress open post the bypolls. He, however, denied he had promised to save the BJP government.
“My assurance to save the government does not mean I want to help the BJP regime,” Kumaraswamy said while campaigning for TN Javarayi Gowda in Yeshwantpur on Sunday. “While I have not specified which government the JD(S) would support, the answer would be known only after December 9, when the bypoll results are announced.”
Kumaraswamy had recently said his party could prop up the government if it fails to win the six seats it requires to stay in power. The JD(S) has 34 MLAs in the legislative assembly.
Kumaraswamy, however, sought to keep the other option of going back to the Congress open by suggesting the JD(S) will only state its position after the bypoll results. “Only those who know nuances of politics will understand what I am saying,” Kumaraswamy said.
Meanwhile, senior Congress leaders including legislature party leader Siddaramaiah and DK Shivakumar campaigned for Padmavathi Suresh in Hoskote. Both attacked former colleague MTB Nagaraj, the disqualified MLA contesting on a BJP ticket.
“Wealth has made Nagaraj arrogant,” Siddaramaiah said. “He is going around saying he lent me money. People must teach this defector a befitting lesson by defeating him.” Nagaraj is easily the wealthiest candidate in the fray, having declared assets of Rs 1,195 crore.
