Bengaluru, Oct 14: A youth from Kerala who had come to the capital of Karnataka for work a week ago was allegedly stabbed to death by three men on K.G. Road in Majestic in the wee hours of Saturday owing to miscommunication over not knowing the local language.
24-year-old Gowtham Krishna, a native of Ernakulam, had come to the city on October 9 and had just found a job at a private courier firm near Halasuru Gate police station. He had taken his friends to a local bar near Majestic on Friday night and was killed on his way back.
“Krishna was returning with his friends by foot and given that the road was empty, they decided to take a selfie. At this time, two people on a bike confronted them for standing in the middle of the road. This led to a fight between them and Krishna was stabbed,” police said.
Police, quoting the complaint filed by his friend, Vishak, said: “Krishna had answered in Malayalam when they first asked about us occupying the road. Then they asked him if he didn’t know Kannada, even to which he responded in Malayalam, angering the duo. One of them pulled out a knife and stabbed Krishna.”
He was immediately rushed to a private hospital, where the doctors declared him dead on arrival. DCP (west) Ravi C Channannavar said they have formed teams to nab the accused and are checking CCTV footage to ascertain the identity of the killers.
