Bengaluru, Feb 21: Two women were among three convicted and sentenced to one year in jail for encroaching government land by the Karnataka Land Grabbing (Prohibition) Special Court here on Monday.
Considering the documents submitted by special public prosecutor Shailaja Krishna Nayak, a special court bench, comprising judicial member RH Raddi and administrative member KR Niranjan, imposed a one-year jail term and a fine of Rs 5,000 in each of the three cases.
Shanthamma, a resident of Avinahalli in Sagar, Shivamogga district, has been held guilty for grabbing and illegally cultivating three acres of reserve forest land, while Danamma from Guttanahalli, also in Sagar, was found to illegally possess and cultivate 2.2 acres of land which forms part of Belandur mini forest.
In the third case, Phakira Hanumatha Poojari was held guilty for illegal possession of 4.2 acres of gomala land (pasture land for community use) at Basavalli in Haliyal, Uttara Kannada district.
