Bengaluru, Oct 28: A city-based advocate was on Saturday convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment by the city civil and sessions court for killing a woman advocate by stabbing her multiple times on the high court premises in broad daylight eight years ago.
The incident occurred on July 8, 2010. The convict, Rajappa from Seegalapaya in Kolar, was in love with Naveena, who was also practising at high court with him. The two had decided to marry, but Rajappa started suspecting her and often picked up a fight with her accusing her of having an affair with an advocate in the high court.
After Naveena threatened to end their relationship, he decided to kill her. He gained entry to the high court with a knife and confronted her before stabbing her multiple times on the first floor of the court corridor.
He later threatened other advocates with the knife and locked himself in a washroom where he tried to commit suicide by consuming poison and stabbing himself. However, advocates and Vidhana Soudha police rushed to arrest him. He was convicted based on depositions and several advocates who had witnessed the murder.
