Lokayukta sleuths search houses of two officials in Dakshina Kannada

Bangalore, Jan 30: The Lokayukta sleuths on Wednesday searched the houses of two government officials in Dakshina Kannada and confiscated properties worth over Rs 1 crore which is disproportionate to their known sources of income

Searches were conducted in 23 places in Dakshina Kannada Belgaum, Bellary, Bijapur, Hassan and Dharwad that included houses of Omprakash Hegde, first division assistant in Bantwal and M V Rajan Nambiar, senior assistant at the Karnataka State Food and Civil Supplies and Corporation, Mangalore.

At Omprakash Hegde's house, officials seized immovable property, including land and house, valued at Rs 22.10 lakh, Movable properties, including bank balance, gold and silver jewellery, vehicles and cash, worth Rs 50.24 lakh. The percentage of disproportionate assets (DA) is 184.

Whereas at Rajan Nambiar's house officials confiscated house worth Rs 25 lakh; three cars, gold and cash, all valued at Rs 31 lakh. The percentage of DA is 323.

Across Karnataka, the Lokayuktha police have unearthed illega” assets worth Rs 7.50 crore.

“The bank accounts (of the officials) are being scrutinised. The suspects were booked under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, on Tuesday,” said H N Sathyanarayana Rao, Additional Director General of Police, Lokayukta.

The other officers are as follows:

Shivanagouda Malagouda Patil, associate professor at SSN Arts and Commerce College, Hukkeri, Belgaum dist:

Immovable properties — buildings, houses and residential plots — worth Rs 2.6 crore. Also owns a car, two-wheelers, gold and silver jewellery, all worth Rs 53.5 lakh. The percentage of disproportionate assets (DA) is 155.51.

Dr B Devananad, professor and head of anaesthesia department at VIMS, Bellary: Immovable properties — houses, residential plots and agricultural land — valued at Rs 1.17 crore. Also owns cars, two-wheelers, gold and silver ornaments, savings bonds and bank accounts. The percentage of DA is 161.67.

K R Prakash, Panchayat Development Officer at Gudekote, Kudligi taluk, Bellary dist: Owns properties worth Rs 43 lakh. The percentage of DA is 204.40.

Mahantappa Erabasappa, Principal Accounts Officer in Bijapur:

Owns several houses, land and residential plots worth Rs 67.5 lakh, registered in his mother's, wife's and his name. Movable property, including gold and silver jewellery, valued at Rs 15.8 lakh.

Subhash Chandra N Puttanavar, Junior Engineer in Town Planning Section of Hubli-Dharwad Municipal Corporation, Hubli:

Owns immovable property, including agricultural land, house and residential plots, Rs 95.5 lakh. Movable properties, including cars, two-wheelers, household articles, gold and silver jewellery, valued at about Rs 48.5 lakh. The percentage of DA is 165.61.

G N Narasimhamurthy, Assistant Controller in Weights and Measures Department, Hassan: Owns immovable assets such as house residential plots in Bangalore, all valued at Rs 97 lakh. Movable properties worth Rs 8.94 lakh. The percentage of DA is 88.

Mysuru, Oct 1: The Karnataka Lokayukta team on Tuesday arrived at the disputed plot in Mysuru and began investigation into the MUDA case against CM Siddaramaiah and his wife, news agency ANI reported. Snehamayi Krishna, the complainant in the case was also present with the team.

Sources stated that ED sleuths might issue a notice to CM Siddaramaiah at any time and issue summons to him for questioning. The sleuths are also keenly watching the movements of CM Siddaramaiah’s close associates and relatives, including a cabinet minister in connection with the MUDA scam.

Sources further said that there is a possibility of the ED conducting raids across the state on offices and residences of close associates of CM Siddaramaiah. The ED has also gathered information on bank accounts and financial transactions of CM Siddaramaiah and his associates.

The Directorate of Enforcement (ED) on Monday registered an Enforcement Case Information Report (ECIR), equivalent to an FIR by the police, against CM Siddaramaiah over the alleged irregularities in the allotment of 14 sites to his wife Parvathi B.M. by the Mysore Urban Development Authority. The ED registered the case taking cognisance of the FIR registered against the Chief Minister by the Lokayukta police on September 27.

Meanwhile, the Karnataka Lokayukta probing the MUDA case has also expedited the probe. The sleuths led by Mysuru Lokayukta SP T.J. Udesh have visited the controversial land on the outskirts of Mysuru city. The petitioner, Snehamayi Krishna, also accompanied the team.

The move of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s wife to return 14 sites allotted by the MUDA to her has triggered a debate. BJP MLA from Mysuru T.S. Srivatsa stated on Tuesday that the move of CM’s wife is not acceptable. "The two commissioners who colluded in the MUDA scam are roaming freely even today," he said.

"CM Siddaramaiah first claimed that there was no scam at all. Later, he formed a commission and now there is an FIR against him. After committing the mistake, you offer to return the sale deed. The time is up. He will have to tender his resignation and I am sure he won’t be in the position until Dasara festivities," MLA T.S. Srivatsa stated.

T.J. Abraham, one of the petitioners in the MUDA case said, “I had demanded the MUDA commissioner to take back the allotted sites. He had written back saying the process would be initiated. They were waiting for the investigation report."

"CM Siddaramaiah has not approached the division bench or the Supreme Court to challenge the order against him because there is nothing to be challenged. Returning sites is not a big sacrifice. The Chief Minister has lost it," Abraham stated.
