Man pushes wife
Kanpur, Aug 4: Ravi Chaurasia of Chakeri area was arrested on Saturday night for killing his wife Ruby over infidelity. The body was recovered from Ganga near the barrage late on Saturday. The arrest was made on the complaint lodged by the woman's parents.

The SHO Kohna said that Ravi confessed of having killed his wife by pushing her into the river. He suspected his wife of infidelity. On Saturday, he planned to visit Ganga Barrage with his wife. "There he entered into an altercation with his wife after she received a phone call and he pushed her into the river," said the officer. A case of murder has been registered. Ravi has been arrested and taken on remand, said SSP KS Emanuel.

She was married to Ravi two years ago and lived in Safipur area in Chakeri.

Ravi had lately been suspecting Ruby of having an affair. "Her phone would remain busy and she would lie that she was talking to her family members," said Ravi during interrogation. Ruby's family denied Ravi's claims and said he killed her owing to his suspicious nature. Ruby's brother Chandan said that this was Ravi's second marriage. "He had been deserted by his first wife about three years back, whom he used to torture," he added.

Due to his suspicious nature Ruby was living with her parents in Rail Bazaar area since past couple of months. On Saturday afternoon, Ravi asked her to meet him at Nayaganj market. He promised to take her on outing and asked her to keep the meeting a secret but Ruby told her siblings.

Late in the evening, when her brothers tried to contact her, they found her phone switched off and Ravi also was not responding to their repeated phone calls, following which Ruby's family registered a missing complaint. While the cops were searching for Ruby, the Kohna police apprised them that a man identified as Ravi was thrashed by visitors at Ganga Barrage after they spotted him pushing his wife into the river. A team led by SHO Kohna confronted Ravi, who confessed to his crime.
