Mangalore, Feb 17: Close to 1.5 lakh people are expected to take part in BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi's programme to be held at Nehru Maidan and all necessary arrangements including beefed up security measures were in place for the big event on Tuesday, said BJP district president Pratap Simha Nayak.
Speaking to mediapersons on the eve of Modi's visit to the city, he said that the final countdown to the arrival of Mr Modi in Mangalore had begun and people of undivided Dakshina Kannada were eagerly awaiting his address at the public convention. Mr Modi will be accompanied by BJP leaders such as Ananth Kumar, B S Yeddyurappa, national joint organising secretary V Satish and state president Prahlad Joshi to the convention, he said.
There will be four big LED screens set up for public viewing of the event at the maidan, and two additional LED screens outside the venue to enable more people to view the speeches of various dignitaries, he said.
He said that Narendra Modi was expected to arrive at the venue at 3 p.m. from the airport at Bajpe. There will be bhava-geete programme prior to the convention from 2 p.m. onwards, he said.
He said that separate seating arrangements will be made for students who will arrive for the event. “Necessary arrangements including security, food and transport have been made to welcome the audience. Our expectancy is that the event will be bigger than the public conventions that were held in Thiruvananthapuram and Kochi,” he said.
He said that iron pieces collected from farmers and sand samples collected from various parts of the district will be displayed on the occasion at the venue as part of the Statue of Unity project proposed in Gujarat.
Over 2,000 party workers in 35 divisions have been preparing for the big event from the past 20 days, he added.
BJP state vice-president MB Bhanuprakash, former MLAs Yogish Bhat and Krishna Palemar were present.
