Mangalore, Dec 1: Minister for Health and Family Welfare U T Khader inaugurated the Christa Jayanthi Kalasangama 2013 and Christmas Cultural Competitions in Kannada in a colourful ceremony organised by Catholic Sabha Mangalore Pradesh and St Vincent Ferrer Church – Valencia unit, in association with Karnataka Christian Education Society (KACES), Balmatta at Valencia church grounds here on Saturday.
Speaking on the occasion, he said that all religions believed in the principle of love and harmony and every religious festival propagated the message of mutual love and trust among people. “Festivals help in spreading love and building amity between people. I hope the lead taken by Valencia Church will help in propagating brotherhood among people and communities and pave the way for building a better society,” he said, encouraging people to follow on the path of Jesus Christ who displayed the virtue of patience in his work of salvation.
Jesus Christ should become a role model for us and the values disseminated by him should be inculcated by every person, he wished.
Parish priest of Valencia church Fr Bonaventure Nazareth presided over the occasion. KACES secretary Dr Hani Cabral welcomed the gathering in the programme.
Following the inaugural ceremony, cultural competitions in Kannada and stage performances were held which drew throngs of people.
The prize distribution ceremony of the competitions will be held on Sunday.
