Mangalore, Jan 11: “I have nothing to do with politics, when in comes to the question of safety of women,” said Congress leader Tejaswini Ramesh.
Speaking at the round table conference 'Safe women – Healthy society' organised by the Mangalore unit of Akhila Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad, the students wing of BJP at SDM Law College, Mangalore on Saturday, she exhorted that politicians cutting across party lines should join their hands together address the problems faced by women in the society.
She went on to say that women do not belong to any particular political party, religion or any caste.
Stating that there is a need to protect Indian culture, she said that western countries have been treating Asia as a bunch of sex trade countries.
The one who is allowing the spread of sex trade under the pretext of tourism and thus destroy the glorious culture of the country is unfit to rule the country,” she said.

She said that it is the responsibility of Home Minister K J George to implement effective policies to ensure the protection for woman.
Stating that police department also has to be sensitized, she said that there must be special woman police officers in every level.
Manjula, former president of State Women's Commission, said that social networking sites have been a curse for woman. She said many youngsters are spoiling their life because of social networking sites. “The result of their so called 'love' is damaging their lives and some lost their lives also,” she said.
She lamented that the government has failed to take action against drug mafia, especially in coastal Karnataka. As a result, students are falling prey to this mafia. This is a major challenge for undivided Dakshina Kannada, she said.
