According to director of the airport J T Radhakrishna, with the airport being functional 24/7, any flight can land and take off from the airport at any time.
“All the necessary arrangements, including security checking and others have been put to place. There is adequate checking of passengers by customs department. Additional personnel have been deployed in all the departments for the smooth operation of flights at all times,” he said.
Currently, MIA sees an average traffic of 35-40 flights on a daily basis. “The only expected objective is more flights operating from the airport, and the operating airlines will have flexible timings for their flights,” he said, adding that the number of daily inbound and outbound flights was expected to rise to 60 over the next two years.
The message should reach other airlines, so that they can frequent more flights from the airport, he said.
Following a demand from the passengers that catering facilities must be provided at Mangalore airport, arrangements have been made to serve fresh and delicious food to passengers from Mangalore airport as well.
Approval for local flight catering from city-based Hotel Ocean Pearl and Kochi-based Casino Flight Caterers has been received and accordingly Air India and Jet Airways will start taking flight catering from the said hotels.
