Inmates calling themselves as aides of Madoor Isbu and Rasheed Malabari resorted to fight in the jail, injuring one, recently.

After the visit of the IGP (Prison) some of the trouble makers in the jail were shifted to Mysore jail to avoid any untoward incidents happening in the jail. Change in jail superintendent too came as a repercussion to the same.

It may be recalled that the inmates were shifted from old jail to new premises following one such fights in October 2012. On November 1, 2012, Jail Superintendent P S Ambekar was transferred to Udupi and Dodda Kamaiah from Tumkur was posted to Mangalore jail.

Though the inmates remained silent for some while, soon there were allegations of the inmates possessing ganja and mobile.

This resulted in police checking the jail once in a while and confiscating mobiles and ganja.

On Saturday, the new superintendent has put a stop on supply of outside food to the inmates and said that the food cooked in the jail will be served to the inmates.

Opposing this some inmates staged a hunger strike, which they withdrew later.

One has to wait and watch if discipline will be a way of life among the inmates with new superintendent taking charge.
