After the matter of dead worms in the food served was brought to the notice of the cabin crew and senior staff, AIE station manager Nagesh Shetty said that the issue would be taken seriously and the local caterer had been warned over its negligence. Since such an incident had happened for the first time, the catering bill for the food provided for the entire flight will not be paid, said Mr Shetty.
According to sources, the dead worms were found in the stew provided at breakfast, and henceforth it would not be served to the flight by the caterers.
As per the information provided by the caterers, the worms might have come from the cauliflower or other vegetables used to prepare the stew that was served to passengers along with dosa and chutney. Cauliflowers are generally prone to be infested with worms.
On the discovery of worms in the food, the passenger immediately brought this to the attention of the cabin crew. Upon learning of this incident, many passengers declined to consume the food served, it is said.
