Mangaluru, Oct 1: In a shocking development, a couple of hundred people in Ullal and surrounding areas of Mangaluru taluk are reported sick after consuming a particular species of fish since Friday.
According to sources, nearly 200 workers of Baraka Fish Oil Mill near Ullal fell ill after consuming fish curry meals on Friday night. Most of them complained of hand and foot spasms. Some others complained of watery diarrhea.
Among them around 50 people including women have been admitted to various hospitals in Deralakatte, Ullal and Thokkottu. Many others returned home after getting treatment at hospitals.
Apart from these workers a few residents of Natekal and Ullal also fell ill after eating same kind of fish, sources said. Three children of a family from Ullal also were hospitalised on Friday.
Four members of a family from Natekal have been admitted to the intensive care unit of a private hospital in Deralakatte. They had reportedly bought the fish from fishing dock in Mangaluru on Friday morning.
