Mangaluru, Feb 22: Various medical departments and facilities such as a new out-patient department block, casualty block, radiology ward, intensive care unit (ICU), neonatal ICU, trauma centre, surgical wards and central laboratory were inaugurated at the newly-established Kanachur Hospital and Research Centre, run by Kanachur Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) at Deralakatte on the outskirts of the city on Sunday.
In the inaugural programme, Kanachur Arogya card was launched by state health minister U T Khader, by symbolically distributing the Arogya card to three beneficiaries. With the Arogya card, concessions to several medical facilities and treatment could be availed by the beneficiaries at Kanachur Hospital for a year.
Speaking after launching the health card, Mr Khader said that the Kanachur Group was rendering social service by establishing a hospital with several healthcare facilities. Thousands of families will be able to avail medical facilities and other benefits of the hospital due to the efforts and dedication of the management in establishing such a hospital. This should be the first step in their long journey in the sector of healthcare, he said, wishing well for the hospital and medical institute.
Mr Khader also inaugurated a one-day free medical camp organised by Kanachur Hospital to provide checkup and treatment to patients free of cost along with necessary medicines.
New facilities inaugurated
Minister for Forests, Environment and Ecology B Ramanath Rai inaugurated the new out-patient department (OPD) block of Kanachur Hospital and Research Centre. Chairman of Azeezia Medical College, Kollam Abdul Azeez inaugurated the new casualty block of the hospital. Chairman of SCDCC Bank M N Rajendra Kumar inaugurated the institute’s central laboratory and pharmacy. General physician Dr Mohammed Ismail inaugurated the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) ward of the institute.
Puttur MLA Shakunthala Shetty inaugurated the labour theatre while Mangaluru North MLA Moideen Bava inaugurated the paediatrics ward. DK zilla panchayat vice president Sathish Kumpala, zilla panchayat member N S Kareem and Kotekar gram panchayat president Shekhar Kaneerthota inaugurated the orthopaedics ward, male and female surgical wards respectively.
Mr Ramanath Rai said that more medical colleges should come up in the district since there was a huge shortage of doctors in the country according to national statistics.
The emergency and trauma care centre, neonatal intensive care unit and radiology block were also inaugurated as part of the Kanachur Hospital.
MLC Ivan D’Souza, vice- chairman of Kanachur Hospital Advisory Board Dr Arunachalam Kumar, Karnataka Bank deputy general manager Chandrashekhar Rao, M S Mohammed Masood, A J Shetty, Nagaraj Shetty, Yenepoya Mohammed Kunhi and several others were present on the occasion.
Chairman of KIMS U Kanachur Monu welcomed the gathering, while Kanachur Hospital finance and administrative director Abdul Rahiman read out a brief report of the hospital and its facilities.
