Mangaluru, Aug 8: Thousands of Muslims from across Dakshina Kannada today converged at Nehru Maidan in the heart of the city to register their protest against the abusive remarks against Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) during a Kannada television debate.
Ajit Hanumakkanavar, a Kannada journalist, who appears on Suvarna News Kannada TV channel, during a debate, had unwarrantedly hurled offensive remarks against the Prophet more than a month ago. Hundreds of complaints have been registered against him across the state for his remarks so far.
Presiding over the protest meet, former Mayor K Ashraf, who is also the president of the Dakshina Kannada Zilla Muslim Sanghatanegala Okkuta (DKMSO), which organised the protest, said that the inaction by police against the accused sparked today’s protest.
