Mangaluru, Aug 26: A city-based travel agency has been accused of swindling several lakhs of rupees by duping as many as 95 Haj aspirants in 2017.
The complainant, who claims to be one of the 95 victims, stated that he had paid Rs 70,000 as advance to the agency in two installments (Rs 35,000 on June 21 and Rs 35,000 on August 16, 2017) for Haj pilgrimage. He also had submitted his passport to get the visa stamped on it.
Though the Haj pilgrimage started, Moidinabba was not given his passport with visa. The agency repeatedly told him the delay was caused due to unavoidable circumstances and asked him to wait. On August 21, he was told that he would not get a chance to go on pilgrimage as the visa was not issued to him.
He said that when he made enquiries, he found out that as many as 95 Haj aspirants were cheated by the same agency this year.
The complainant also has claimed that a few politicians and state haj committee have been protecting the owners of the agency.
