Mangaluru, Jun 21: With the availability of a plot of eight-acre land near the proposed Rangamandira in Bondel, the land has become a bone of contention between the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) which has proposed to build a full-fledged cricket stadium and Dakshina Kannada District Cricket Association (DKDCA) which has been vying the land to construct a practice pitch for budding cricketers and cricket tournaments in the district.

Discussing this issue at a meeting chaired by district in-charge minister Ramanath Rai in the presence of deputy commissioner A B Ibrahim here on Saturday, KSCA Mangalore Zone Convenor Manohar Amin said that since a cricket stadium could not be built in the available land, the association would build a cricket pitch on the available land.

On the other hand, DKDCA honorary secretary Dr Shrikanth Rai said that a cricket pitch was required for the cricket clubs to conduct tournaments and the association had been vying for a cricket pitch in Mangaluru from several years.

Mr Ramanath Rai said that a decision would be taken within two weeks by the district administration whether to hand over the sought-after land to either of the vying parties.

MUDA Commissioner Nazeer, Mayor Jacintha Alfred and others were present on the occasion.
