Mangaluru, Mar 17: A youth, who had sexually assaulted a four-and-half-year-old girl child, has been sentenced to 10-year rigorous imprisonment by the second additional sessions district court which is also a special court to handle cases under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act.
The incident took place under Konaje police limits on December 23, 2014. The convict K M Ashraf, 29, a resident of Vorkady in Manjeshwara, was working for a cable TV operator. On December 23, he had visited the victim’s house around 4pm to repair the cable TV connection. Victim’s mother was at home.
While he was going to the terrace to repair the wire, Ashraf took the victim along and tried to assault her sexually. When the victim started to scream, Ashraf fled from the spot.
Victim’s mother later filed a case with Konaje police. Following the complaint, police took up investigation and sent the victim for medical examinations.
“Around 15 witnesses were examined. Interestingly, the victim’s parents and others turned hostile. However, the victim and one of her family friend stood firm and gave witness. Apart from it, medical examination and investigation reports by police proved Ashraf guilty of sexual assault,” said special public prosecutor C Venkataramana Swamy.
