Mangaluru, Oct 13: A local court has awarded life imprisonment to a 32-year-old man for killing his friend nearly two years ago over a love triangle. The murder had taken place on December 31, 2016 at Kuttar near Deralakatte on the outskirts of the city.
Muralidhar Pai, judge of the third additional district and sessions court on Friday held Pradeep Kumar guilty under IPC Section 302 (murder). He was also directed to pay a fine of Rs 1,000.
Pradeep and Rudramuni alias Santu, 26, both originally hailing from Shikaripura in Shivamogga district, had been working at a salon in Kuttar. They were staying together in the room just above the salon.
The duo was friends with a woman who also hailed from Shikaripura. Over time, both fell in love with her. However, Santu did not like Pradeep sharing camaraderie with the woman and hence quarrels were frequent between the two. On December 31, 2016, Pradeep stabbed Santu to death in their room after which he fled the spot.
A couple of days later, Ullal police nabbed Pradeep from Ujjodi. Inspector K R Gopikrishna filed a chargesheet against Pradeep.
