Udupi, Jun 28: One of three arrested in Manipal gang-rape case, Hariprasad Poojary has been produced before the court on Thursday.
He was remanded in police custody for five days.
Udupi police on Thursday had arrested three persons — Yogesh Poojari, 30, a resident of Ontibettu, Hariprasad Poojary, 27, and Anand, 28, residents of Badagabettu, Parkala- in connection with kidnap and rape of medical student in Manipal
In a bid to evade arrest, Yogesh attempted suicide by consuming poison. Anand too attempted suicide by hanging himself. However, police managed to arrest both of them and rushed them to hospital. Both are recuperating.
IGP (western range) Pratap Reddy said two other accused, Yogesh and Anand were still in a hospital undergoing treatment after their alleged failed suicide bid fearing arrest.
The medical student was kidnapped from the Manipal University in an autorikshaw and gang-raped by three men on late June 20 night. The victim is recuperating in a hospital, Reddy said.
