Bengaluru, Jun 23: In a freak incident, two persons died after falling off the second floor of a pub located in Church Street, Bengaluru on Friday night.

The deceased have been identified as Pavan Attavar , 36, marketing manager at a media house, and Veda R Yadav, 28, a software engineer with an IT company.

The incident occurred at Beir Pub when city police commissioner Alok Kumar, along with senior officials, were inspecting the pub as part of the night rounds and taking stock of the situation.

The police personnel heard a thud and found the duo lying in a pool of blood and rushed them to hospital, where the doctors declared them as brought dead.

According to the police, the duo were coming down from the third floor. “Veda was in an inebriated state while Pavan was helping her on the staircase. Veda tripped and Pavan tried to hold her, and the two lost balance and fell on the fibre blind of the window at the stair landing,” a police officer said.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Pavan had gone to the pub along with their friends. The duo then left the pub and was coming down the stairs when the incident occurred. Their friends were still in the pub. The police have charged the pub owner and the manager for death due to negligence and are investigating. The Cubbon park police have obtained the CCTv footage for further investigations.

“In one of the CCTV footages, it was found that Pavan was helping Veda to get down as she was finding it difficult to walk. There were no grill and the window was covered with fibre blind. The duo might have lost balance while walking down and crashed into the fibre blind and slipped through the window crashing down,” a police officer said.

The police handed over the bodies of the duo to the families after post-mortem at Bowring hospital.
