Washington, Nov 6: American actor Matthew McConaughey opened up about how he missed on the role of Jack Dawson in 'Titanic' and how he really wanted to draw Rose, played by Kate Winslet, like one of his French girls.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter's 'Awards Chatter', the 49-year-old star said he is still upset that he missed out on Leonardo DiCaprio's role in 'Titanic'.

The Oscar winner auditioned for the role of Jack in James Cameron's movie and came away feeling good about the project, but he didn't get the part. "I went and auditioned, I wanted that. I auditioned with Kate Winslet, I had a good audition, and walked away from there pretty confident that I had it. I didn't get it. I never got offered that," he said.

Despite not getting the role, McConaughey went on to hold key roles in other works like 'The Wedding Planner', 'Magic Mike', 'Interstellar', and 'True Detective.'

Last year, Winslet also recalled her audition with McConaughey. During fire round of questions from Stephen Colbert on The Late Show, Winslet said that her audition with McConaughey was "fantastic.
