Bengaluru, Aug 28: A nine-year-old girl, said to be speech impaired, was killed by her mentally unsound mother who pushed her twice from the third floor of their rented house at Jaraganahalli near JP Nagar on Sunday afternoon.

The victim is identified as Sherya. Police said that the mother, Swathi, is a native of West Bengal. She is said to be mentally ill.

The incident took place at around 3.30 pm. Swathi and her husband Sarkar were staying on the third floor of the residential building, along with their only daughter Shreya. Sarkar works in a private firm and Swathi used to work as a school teacher. She was staying at home for the last two years after quitting the job.

According to police, Swathi came out of the house and pushed her daughter from the third floor. She came down to see whether her daughter was alive or not.

The woman found that Shreya was alive and had suffered injuries. Again, Swathi took Sherya to the third floor and pushed her down. The girl died on the spot. Local residents caught Swathi and tied her to an electricity pole, before informing the police.

Initial investigation revealed that Shreya was a dumb girl and Swathi was mentally ill. Swathi's husband was not present at home when the incident occurred. The Puttenahalli police have arrested Swathi and registered a complaint against her.
