Saudi King Salman urges world to take 'decisive stance' against Iran

Riyadh, Nov 12: The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz of Saudi Arabia, urged the world on Thursday to take "a decisive stance" to address efforts by Iran to develop nuclear and ballistic missile programs, in an annual address to the top government advisory body.

"The Kingdom stresses the dangers of Iran's regional project, its interference in other countries, its fostering of terrorism, its fanning the flames of sectarianism ... in its efforts to possess weapons of mass destruction," King Salman told Shura Council members via videolink.

“We call on the international community to take a decisive stance against Iran to ensure it does not obtain weapons of mass destruction and develop its ballistic missile project.

They were his first public remarks since he addressed the United Nations General Assembly in September via videolink, where he also took aim at Iran.

Sunni Muslim Saudi Arabia and Shi'ite Iran are locked in a decades-long struggle for influence across the region, supporting opposing sides in conflicts from Syria to Yemen.

Tensions have risen since US President Donald Trump pulled the United States out of a landmark nuclear deal with world powers in 2018 and reimposed stringent economic sanctions on the Islamic Republic.

The new Shura Council comprises 150 members and will serve a four-year term.

Israeli settlers launch brutal attack, set fire to Palestinian homes, cars in West Bank

Hundreds of Israeli settlers conducted a brutal attack in the occupied West Bank city of Ramallah.

The settlers set fire to numerous homes and vehicles of Palestinians and then moved to the main road connecting Ramallah to other cities, targeting Palestinian cars passing by.

They stormed the city of al-Bireh, near Ramallah, and burned Palestinian property and vehicles.

A woman sustained injuries after the settlers hurled stones at her vehicle, according to Palestinian news outlets.

Tension has been running high across the West Bank because of Israel’s genocidal war in the Gaza Strip, which has killed at least 43,341 people, mostly women and children, since last year’s October.

The Monday settler attack came as the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas warned of Israel’s plans to annex the West Bank and drive Palestinians out.

“We warn of the grave danger posed by the plans led by the extremist occupation regime and illegal settler groups to displace the residents of Palestinian villages in the occupied West Bank,” Hamas official Mahmoud Mardawi said.

Israel's far-right minister Bezalel Smotrich called for the full annexation of the West Bank and the Gaza Strip last week.

Smotrich asserted that Israel should unequivocally declare there would be no Palestinian state.

He repeated his proposal of expanding Israeli settlements within the West Bank and other occupied territories.

Mangaluru's Wenlock Hospital to Get Day-Care Chemotherapy Centre, Major Facelift Announced

Mangaluru: District-in-Charge Minister and Minister for Health and Family Welfare, Dinesh Gundu Rao, announced that a day-care chemotherapy centre will soon be established at District Wenlock Hospital. Speaking to mediapersons after reviewing the activities at Wenlock and Government Lady Goschen Hospital, he shared the government’s plans to enhance healthcare services in the region.

Key Initiatives Announced

• Day-Care Chemotherapy Centre:

Ten beds will be reserved for cancer patients.
The government will collaborate with Yenepoya Hospital to provide chemotherapy treatments.
All required facilities for the centre are already in place, awaiting inauguration by the Chief Minister.

• Wenlock Hospital Facelift:

Critical Care Block: To be built at a cost of ₹24 crore.
Integrated Public Health (IPH) Lab: Planned with a budget of ₹1 crore.
New OPD Block: As per a 2017 agreement, KMC Hospital will take up construction. Discussions with KMC management are underway.

• Additional Requirements:

A new mortuary and post-mortem building.
Paramedical college building.
Modern kitchen.
Bridge connecting two buildings within the hospital.

• Total facelift cost: ₹6 crore to ₹10 crore, utilizing funds from the Department of Health and Family Welfare and CSR contributions.

• Timeline:
By December or January, priority works will be finalized. The superintendents of Wenlock and Lady Goschen Hospitals are scheduled to visit Bengaluru next week to discuss these projects.

• MRI Fee Allegations:
The minister assured that allegations of patients being charged for MRI scans at Wenlock Hospital will be resolved at the earliest.
These measures aim to improve healthcare accessibility and infrastructure, positioning Wenlock Hospital as a state-of-the-art facility in the region.
