Mangaluru, Nov 4: A tragedy has been averted at the New Mangalore Port Trust (NMPT) after a container ship sustained damage to her port side hull while sailing out.
The incident took place between 7am to 8am on Saturday. The cargo-laden vessel X-press Brahmaputra was immediately brought back to access the extent of the damage.
According to sources, while sailing out from Jetty No.2, the ship accidentally hit the berth, which caused the vessel to get damaged. The damage was caused near the fuel tank, which subsequently started leaking. However, the authorities managed to contain the spillage.
In a press release, the NMPT authorities stated: “Vessel MV X-press Brahmaputra sustained damage to her port side hull today morning, while sailing out. The vessel was brought back to access the extent of damage. There are no major concerns as NMPT officials acted professionally in time, to tackle the situation. The issue is under control.”
