Mumbai, Dec 21: If reports are to be believed, Narendra Modi has reportedly threatened to quit from the Prime Minsiter's post if the RSS leaders do not stay away from controversies such as forced conversions and contentious statements.
The RSS, thereafter, gave a green signal to the government to take action against leaders who indulge in making controversial statements, it said.
The report in a section of local media said that Modi has told the top brass of the RSS that the image of government is getting hampered because of the loose statements made by some their leaders. BJP leaders are of the opinion that the BJP-led NDA government has come to power on the issue of good governance, and by such controversial statements it is getting a colour of fanaticism, the report said.
Of late, leaders from RSS and other organisations, affiliated to the Sangh, have been giving controversial statements. "Modi has therefore expressed disappointment over such rabble rousers. The RSS, which has intervened into the matter has assured Modi that it will take stern action against the leaders who make controversial remarks," the reports said.
It further said that the effect was immediately witnessed wherein BJP president Amit Shah promptly suspended Rajasthan's state unit chief and Kota MLA Prahlad Gunjal for allegedly abusing and threatening a Chief Medical and Health Officer (CMHO) for transfer of a male nurse.
Police had registered a FIR against Gunjal under various sections of IPC for intimidating and threatening the officer over phone. The BJP MLA from Kota (North) allegedly threatened Kota district CMHO Dr RN Yadav with dire consequences for not issuing transfer orders to the relative of a party worker.
However, Prime Minister Narendra Modi's threat to quit is pretty much superficial, given that he is clearly enjoying his tryst with power, he would do well to focus solely on welfare issues and ensure right wing organisations are put back in their place.
