Bengaluru, Nov 26: Thousands of fans and political workers and leaders, cutting across the party affiliations, bid a tearful adieu to former union minister and cine star M H Ambareesh who had died in the city after brief illness on Saturday as his body was consigned to flames with full state honours at Sree Kanteerava Studios premises on Monday.
People of Karnataka had been mourning since the cine actor and prominent Congress leader had died and his body was taken in a military aircraft to his hometown Mandya where tens of thousands paid their last respects since yesterday night.
On Monday the body of called as 'rebel star' in Sandalwood was taken on a long procession in the city today and the body was confined to flames, with the pyre being lit by his son Abhishek Gowda with a sobbing Ambareesh's wife and actor Sumalata witnessing the event with grief.
Earlier in the morning the body, which was airlifted by Air Force Helicopter last evening to his home District Mandya, where thousands of people paid last respects to their 'Mandyada Gandu', was brought back to the City for the last rites.
Mr Ambareesh, known as 'Kaliyuga Karna' for his kind heart that always longed to help the poor and needy, had been a prominent political leader in Karnataka.
