Mangalore, Aug 19: Hundreds of people in Dakshina Kannada district witnessed and took part in the Mosaru kudike' (curd pot) utsav, one of the most popular event of this festive season, with great pomp and gaiety, on Monday.
In the morning, while most of the organisers were busy tying earthen pots at a height of about 15 to 20 feet at many points, many others preferred to take rest to get ready for the grand gala time in the evening.
The festivities began around 4 pm in most of the places. One of the most grand celebrations were at Kadri. The grand procession carrying the idol of Sri Krishna began in the evening.
The actual mosaru kudike utsav was inaugurated by a young boy at Kadri Kambla Road by breaking a closed earthen pot filled to the brim with curds, late in the evening.
The traditional huli vesha' and life size puppets added colour to the celebrations. Amidst them a number of colourful fire crackers were burst at regular intervals which brightened the sky. Hawkers of trinkets, those selling street food made brisk business, as crowds swelled at temples to offer their prayers and to witness the festivities, which continued on till late in the night.
