Bengaluru, Nov 28: A 24-year-old junior artiste in the Kannada film industry has been arrested on charges of raping a former classmate for two years while teaching her music and dance.
In her complaint to the Jnanabharathi police in Bengaluru, the woman said she was forced to develop a physical relationship with the accused, who also filmed their moments together. He later blackmailed her and threatened her after she became pregnant.
Things took a turn for the worse when the accused sent the same video to the man with whom she was engaged last month.
The accused, Manjunath alias Karan Mahadev, resident of Ullala, west Bengaluru, was booked under IPC section 376 (rape). He has also been booked under various sections of the IT Act. He owned a studio and offered to teach the woman how to compose music. They were classmates in a city college earlier.
The two were in a relationship, but the accused K. Manjunath, allegedly started assaulting and abusing the complainant repeatedly, and forced her to abort her pregnancy. In her statement, the woman said he started blackmailing her.
“Despite strong objections, he got into a relationship and videographed it. Last month, I was engaged to another man, a private firm staffer. Manjunath forwarded the videos to my fiancé. The marriage was cancelled,” she said.
“The accused had claimed that he had contacts in the Kannada film industry and promised to promote her,” said the police.
