Bengaluru, Sept 28: The Nationwide Bandh call given by All India Organisation of Chemists and Druggists against government's decision allowing online sales of medicine evoked total response in Karnataka with more than 20,000 Chemists throughout the State downing their shutters.
The Karnataka Chemists and Druggists Association President R Raghunath Reddy talking to UNI here on Friday claimed that "the bandh was total with all the Chemists, in District and State Capital, have cooperated by closing their shops."
Replying to a question, Mr Reddy said the shutdown has been peaceful and this was after the association appealed to retailers all the District units and they had extended their support.
"We are against the Union Government's move to introduce 'E-Pharmacy', for which it has already issued Gazetted notification bypassing Draft Rules and many Acts and we have also moved legally against it," he said.
Meanwhile, Karnataka Minister for Medical Education D K Shivakumar has warned cancellation of licence if any Chemists and Druggists having shops in Government Hospitals and premises if they join the strike and shot their shops.
