Bengaluru, May 3: An FIR has been registered at the High Grounds police station in Bengaluru against an online news portal for allegedly publishing fake news about Karnataka Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy.
Based on a complaint by Dinesh H.B., media secretary to the CM, the police have booked a reporter with UKsuddi.in and Ajith Shetty Heranje who had shared the news report on his Facebook account.
In his complaint, Mr. Dinesh said that Mr. Kumaraswamy had gone to Kaup in Udupi district for two days for naturopathy treatment. On April 24 the news portal allegedly published morphed photos of Mr. Kumaraswamy and actor Radhika with a false write-up that the duo were at a resort in Udupi.
Ajith Shetty had taken a screen shot of the news clip and posted it on his social media account.
“This was done to tarnish Mr. Kumaraswamy’s image. Hence, legal action should be taken against them,” Mr. Dinesh said.
The police have filed an FIR charging the accused with forgery and criminal intimidation.
