Mangaluru, Mar 5: Police have arrested seven students of two educational institutions in connection with two separate cases of ragging under the limits of Mangaluru City Police Commissionerate.
In the first case four students third year engineering from Srinivas College, Mukka, were arrested on charge of subjecting their juniors to ragging and assaulting their teacher.
The arrested are K U Shameel (22) from Mukka, Mohammed Bazil (22) from Baikampady, Sambhram Alva (20) from Mulky and Ashwith N Johnson (21) from Kalpane.
According to police commissioner N Shashi Kumar, the accused had threatened, abused and behaved inhumanly with the junior students. On February 26, the issue was taken up in the anti-ragging committee of the college. After this development, two of the accused accused Shameel, Bazil and Sambhram allegedly assaulted a lecturer following an argument. On March 3, the college dean filed a police complaint against the four students.
In another case, three students were arrested in connection to an incident of ragging under Kankanady police station limits. The arrested are Mohammed Adil (20) and Mohammed Nizammudin (20) from Kannur, and Mohammed Riyaz (20) from Calicut.
It is said that nine junior students who were staying a rented room at Pumpwell Simon Lane, were ragged by the three senior students. The seniors who were staying in the hostel, visited the rented room of the junior students and repeatedly harassed them.
