Mangaluru, Aug 21: The intention behind the lone accused in the recent case of hoax bomb call to Mangaluru International Airport was publicity, according to Police commissioner Vikash Kumar Vikash.

Vasanth Krishna Sherigar, 33, a resident of Karkala Mudrady, was apprehended by the cops a day after he made a phone call on August 19 to former airport director M Vasudev Rao. The latter had immediately informed the incumbent director and a search operation was carried out with the help of CISF and local police as per protocol.

“The accused studied up to Class 8 but very active in using mobile phone. He had also worked at a hotel in Bengaluru for about a few years. Then he worked in a restaurant in Udupi,” the commissioner said.

“After lockdown, he remained home. He wanted to get some publicity. Hence he made the hoax mob call after finding Mr Rao’s contact number online,” he said.

When asked if the accused was mentally unsound, the police commissioner said, “it would be unfair to call the accused mentally unsound, unless we have a medical certificate to prove the same.”

Finally as expected he is mentally ill and not the member of SDPI.
Otherwise there was a big scene in major TV channels.
