Bantwal, Oct 24: Within a day after the cold-blooded murder of rowdy-sheeter Farooq in Bantwal taluk, the cops today managed to arrest one of the accused in the case after opening fire at him at Gundya. Two more accused managed to escape.
The arrested has been identified as Khaleel, a native of Kalladka, who was residing at Nanadavar for past few years. He suffered injuries. Bantwal rural police sub-inspector Prasanna also reportedly suffered injuries during the arrest. Both were hospitalised.
Khaleel and his two accomplices are prime suspects in the murder case of Farooq, who was hacked to death yesterday at Melkar while he was riding a motorbike.
Acting on a tip off, the police chased the accused from Bantwal in a vehicle. According to police, Khaleel suddenly attacked on the police with a dagger at Gundya in escape bid. Bantwal town station police sub-inspector Avinash, fired at the accused.
Police sub-inspectors Avinash and Prasanna managed to arrest Khaleel. However, his accomplices including Hafeez escaped.
