Mangaluru, Oct 6: Mangaluru MLA U T Khader has taken BJP-led union and state governments in India to task for giving priority to outsiders over own citizens.
The central government had decided to observe a one-day state mourning on October 4 and the Karnataka government also issued a circular cancelling all entertainment programmes. Following the home ministry circular, the state government also directed that the national flag be flown at half-mast on all government buildings that day.
Mr Khader’s tweet expressing his displeasure at the government ignoring the Hathras victim’s plight while announcing a state mourning for Kuwait Emir has sparked debate.
“The BJP government burnt the dead body of rape victim Manisha Valmiki without even allowing her family members to see her face. They could not observe even a minute’s silence as tribute. It is shameful that the BJP government issued a circular directing even gram panchayats to hoist the national flag at half-mast as a tribute to the king of a foreign nation,” Khader tweeted attaching the copy of the state government’s circular.
Khader told media persons that people are pained by the Hathras incident. “Our Prime Minister has not even tweeted condemning the incident. He has not uttered a single word on the incident,” he lamented.
