Bengaluru, Nov 19: The waiting game is not over yet for senior BJP MLAs and Congress-JD (S) rebel legislators, hoping to bag ministerial berths. Reason: Chief minister BS Yediyurappa once again couldn’t secure a nod for cabinet expansion from the party brass.

Yediyurappa, who flew down to New Delhi on Wednesday afternoon, was hoping to get the green signal and take up cabinet expansion this weekend.

The chief minister, accompanied by deputy CM Govind Karjol, met BJP chief JP Nadda briefly and explained to him the need to accommodate new faces in the cabinet. “I have informed Nadda about the need to undertake cabinet expansion at the earliest and accommodate new faces. He said he would discuss the issue and get back in the next 2-3 days,” Yediyurappa told reporters after the meeting in Delhi.

A senior functionary, who accompanied the CM to the national capital, said Yediyurappa was hoping to meet Union minister Amit Shah, but he managed to speak to Nadda, who informed him that he would visit Karnataka next month as part of a country-wide tour. Asked if it would be cabinet expansion or reshuffle, Yediyurappa said, “It will depend on the direction given by Nadda.”

According to party insiders, Yediyurappa handed over the list of legislators he intends to induct into the cabinet and requested Nadda to take a call at the earliest as the winter session of the state legislature starts from December 7.

Yediyurappa is planning to restructure his cabinet by dropping a few ministers to make place for new faces. But everything now depends on the decision taken by the party brass.

Eight-month wait

It's been eight months since the CM has been waiting for the high command’s nod to expand his team, but in vain. Though, there is no clarity on why the BJP national leadership is not giving Yediyurrappa, the senior-most BJP CM in the country, the go-ahead, party insiders believe the delay has something to do with reports of leadership change in the state.

Yediyurappa is under tremendous pressure to expand his cabinet, especially from senior party MLAs and turncoat MLCs, including MTB Nagaraj, R Shankar, H Vishwanath and newly elected MLA Munirathna, who together helped him become CM. It’s been more than two and a half months since both Shankar and Nagaraj were made members of the upper house and since then they have been waiting to become ministers in the Yediyurappa government.

If Yediyurappa fails to get a nod in the next 2-3 days, party insiders said Karnataka could witness a lot of political drama as strong discontent is brewing in the state party unit.

Mangaluru, Jan 8: The serene beaches near Kulai Jetty under the limits of Surathkal police station turned into a scene of tragedy on Wednesday, January 8, as a group of four close friends saw their day of joy morph into heartbreak.

Three young men lost their lives in the unforgiving waves, while one narrowly escaped death, saved by the heroic efforts of local fishermen.

The victims have been identified as:

M. S. Manjunath (31), son of Shivlingappa, hailing from Upparigenahalli, Chitradurga district.

Shivakumar (30) from Shivamogga district.

Satyavelu (30) from JP Nagar, Bengaluru.

The sole survivor, Parameshwara (30), from Hangarga, Bidar district, now carries the weight of a harrowing ordeal and the devastating loss of his three closest friends.

These young men, all students of AMC Engineering College in Bengaluru, had embarked on a trip meant to create memories of joy and camaraderie. Driving overnight from Bengaluru, they reached Mangaluru on Wednesday morning. After breakfast at a local eatery, the group decided to visit the picturesque Kulai Jetty, seeking solace and adventure in the sea.

But their joyful outing took a tragic turn. While playing in the water, the four were caught in strong currents. Despite the swift intervention of local fishermen, only Parameshwara could be rescued in time. The lifeless bodies of Manjunath, Shivakumar, and Satyavelu were later found on the right side of the jetty, their dreams and futures cruelly cut short.

The Surathkal police, alerted to the incident, promptly arrived at the scene and began their investigation. The bodies were transported to AJ Hospital for post-mortem examinations, leaving their families and friends to grapple with the enormity of their loss.

A case has been registered at Surathkal Police Station. This incident serves as a stark reminder of the unpredictable and dangerous nature of the sea, urging visitors to prioritize safety above all else.

What was meant to be a day of joy has left a void that can never be filled, as three grieving families now face the unbearable pain of losing their loved ones.

Udupi: A resident of Karkala in Udupi district has accused five individuals of defrauding him of nearly Rs 2 crore under the guise of business partnerships.

Dawood Hakim, a resident of Ennehole in Marne village, Karkala, has filed a complaint stating that he operated a mobile sales and service business on Karkala Market Road for 15 years. He had known the accused for over two decades and trusted them implicitly.

According to Dawood, the accused convinced him to invest in multiple business ventures, including land dealings and a travel business, promising substantial returns and partnership benefits. Believing their assurances, Dawood reportedly handed over cash, gold, and a vehicle.

However, the promised profits never materialized, and the accused allegedly failed to return the money or assets. Dawood claims this deception has caused severe financial distress to him and his family, amounting to a loss of around Rs 2 crore.

A case has been registered at the CEN police station, and investigations are underway.

Bengaluru: The BJP on Tuesday accused the police of "framing" an innocent person in the cow attack case in Chamarajapet here and demanded a fair investigation into the incident.

Sheikh Nasru (30), a native of Champaran in Bihar, has been arrested for allegedly slashing the udders of three cows on Sunday.

The matter escalated into a communal controversy after the saffron party threatened to observe 'Black Sankranti' if the culprits were not arrested before the festival.

The party has since emphasised that the actual perpetrators must be apprehended.

Addressing media here, BJP state president B Y Vijayendra said, "There are claims that an innocent man has been falsely implicated and is being projected as the culprit."

Leader of Opposition R Ashoka also raised doubts about the investigation, questioning how a mentally unstable man could work at the firm for a decade.

Ashoka noted that the incident occurred at the veterinary hospital, which spans four acres.

He alleged that the hospital was recently declared Waqf property and claimed that Karna, the owner of the injured cattle, had opposed the Waqf Board’s decision, suggesting this opposition might have led to the incident.

The party leaders led by Vijayendra and Ashoka celebrated 'Sankranti' by offering special prayers to cows at the spot where the attack took place.

Meanwhile, state Home Minister G Parameshwara dismissed the opposition charges and said the police were investigating the case without any bias.

"If the investigation reveals the involvement of more people, then police will not spare them," he told reporters here.
