Mangaluru, Feb 3: A leopard which got trapped in the toilet of a house while chasing a dog in an isolated area in Kaikamba of Bilinele village in Kadaba taluk of a of Dakshina Kannada district, managed to escape when the sleuths of Forest Department were trying to capture it.
According to Deputy Conservator of Forest V Karikalan, the leopard was found in the small washroom of the house of Regappa.
In the early hours, a family member of Regappa heard some sound and then noticed the tail of an animal in the washroom. The woman locked the washroom from outside. Regappa informed the forest department personnel on Wednesday morning.
The forest department staff rushed to the spot and sneaked through the window of the washroom to find the leopard and the dog inside.
Later a net and cage was placed outside the washroom to catch the leopard. Services of a veterinary doctor was taken to dart. Additional cage and net also were taken from Uppinangady.
However, the officials managed to capture only the dog, as the leopard jumped and escaped during the operation. Sources said that the leopard escaped when the officials were about to sedate it using a gun.
