Bengaluru, Aug 22: Karnataka has initiated the process for one year compulsory government service by medical post graduates (PG), asking them to register to begin at a time when the state is overwhelmed by the coronavirus pandemic and shortage of doctors, a minister said on Saturday.

“For the first time after the Supreme Court verdict in August 2019, we have begun an online registration process for compulsory government service after PG medical courses,” said Medical Education Minister K. Sudhakar.

He said these candidates will be posted as senior residents and tutors in medical education or equivalent posts in the health department.

Counselling procedure for the mandatory government service of successful MD, MS and Diploma candidates in July and August will be held shortly.

“As a preliminary preparation, all candidates who have passed are hereby instructed to compulsorily register by August 25th 3 p.m. without fail,” said an official.

Principals and heads of institutes have been entrusted with the task of ensuring that graduates comply with the registration process.

The medical education department has invoked the Karnataka Compulsory Service by Candidates Completed Medical Courses (Amendment) Act 2012, Section (4) for post graduates.

According to this Act, one year of government service is mandatory for all medical post graduates admitted under any category in Karnataka.

Similarly, duty allocation is on a first come first serve merit basis.

“The allotment will be on a first come first serve cum merit basis. They shall lose the right to merit for allotment if they fail to register. Hence, all candidates are directed to compulsorily register,” he said.

Likewise, a no objection certificate (NOC) for reciprocal registration between candidates will not be issued without the endorsement of the director of medical education.

Colleges have also been instructed not to issue certificates without the director’s endorsement.

More than a week ago, Sudhakar had announced that 2,000 PG medical students are poised to join forces to strengthen the state’s battle against the pandemic.

The compulsory service move comes at a time when the Karnataka health department is overwhelmed by the Covid situation and the shortage of doctors.

To tide over the shortage, the Bengaluru civic body has already advertised some vacancies and recruited doctors, nurses and other medical staff.

With 7,571 more infections on Friday, the statewide Covid tally rose to 2.64 lakh cases.

It is sheer exploitation, as these pg doctors have spent substantial lifespan of their youth pursuing their ambition and now they need to be at their respective places & settle down in life. Although within the state candidates can still manage but those from other states get stuck up & shall be at a disadvantage. Govt should review keeping in view the above issue.

Sir,
It is good that compulsary medical service was announced for pg medical for one year, but it is very unfortunate that no step has been taken for employment for pg students who have completed their education. If late appointment will be done then it will be wastage of time for students as many students are from out of state. They have used their lives nearly 8years in medical education. The programme must be fixed for students who have passed the exam otherwise he ie she should be released from such compulsory bond
Thanks

pagerblast.jpg

The founder of Taiwan's Gold Apollo, Hsu Ching-Kuang denied that his company manufactured the pagers used in the explosions that occurred in Lebanon on Tuesday, resulting in at least nine fatalities and nearly 3,000 injuries.

The detonations were triggered simultaneously by pagers used by militant-group Hezbollah members across the country.

News agency Reuters reported that images of the destroyed pagers revealed a format and stickers on the back that were consistent with those produced by Gold Apollo.

A high-ranking Lebanese security official said that Hezbollah had placed an order for 5,000 pagers from the Taiwanese company.

Earlier, a New York Times (NYT) report said that pagers used by Hezbollah members that simultaneously exploded on Tuesday came from Taiwan, with Lebanon claiming that explosives packed in sometime before they arrived in Lebanon.

However, Hsu clarified that the pagers involved in the incident were manufactured by a European company called BAC, which had the right to use Gold Apollo's brand. "The product was not ours. It was only that it had our brand on it," he said, without disclosing the name of the European manufacturer. Hsu further said that Gold Apollo was also a victim in this situation.

"We are a responsible company. This is very embarrassing," Hsu said.

According to media reports, Hezbollah's fighters started using pagers believing they could avoid Israeli tracking of their locations.

Hezbollah blames Israel, vows 'punishment'

Hezbollah vowed revenge against Israel following accusations that the latter was responsible for detonating pagers throughout Lebanon.

Ziad Makary, the Lebanese information minister, denounced the detonation of the pagers, which are commonly used by Hezbollah and other groups in Lebanon for communication purposes. He labeled the incident as an "Israeli aggression". Meanwhile, Hezbollah declared that Israel would face "its fair punishment" for the explosions.

New Delhi, Sept 17: Atishi will be the new Chief Minister of Delhi. The decision came after a legislative party meeting was chaired by Arvind Kejriwal at his Delhi residence earlier today.

Kejriwal is expected to tender his resignation later today, and will also meet Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena at 4.30 pm.

On September 13, Arvind Kejriwal was released from Tihar Jail, where he had been lodged for his alleged involvement in the Delhi liquor policy case. Nearly two days after his release, on Sunday, Kejriwal said he would resign as the Chief Minister within 48 hours.

He also sought early polls in Delhi, and vowed not to sit in the chief minister’s chair until people gave him a “certificate of honesty”.

On Monday, the AAP held a series of meetings as Kejriwal sought feedback from members of the political affairs committee, the party’s highest decision-making body, on his successor in one-on-one meetings at his official residence.

Names of Delhi ministers Atishi, Gopal Rai, Kailash Gahlot and Saurabh Bharadwaj were making the rounds as contenders, news agency PTI had quoted party insiders as saying and added that Kejriwal’s wife Sunita Kejriwal and Assembly Speaker Ram Niwas Goel were also the probables.

Mangolpuri MLA Rakhi Birla, who is also the deputy speaker in the assembly, and Kondli legislator Kuldeep Kumar were also potential candidates, they added.

Earlier, sources with the AAP had told PTI that the surprise candidate could also be a member of the minority community as the party has witnessed its support among the community wavering since the 2020 Delhi riots.
