Bengaluru, Oct 22: Notwithstanding party leaders’ diktat, senior Karnataka BJP leader, Basanagouda Patil Yatnal, continued to fire salvos targeting Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa through his fan pages in Facebook on Wednesday.

His official Twitter handle shot back at his critics within the party stating that he won’t fall at anyone’s feet to become a minister.

“I raise my voice for the welfare of the state, not for personal gains. Let my critics be aware that I am not a pimp to fall at someone’s feet to get my work done,” he said, after he was criticised for his remarks on Tuesday that Yediyurappa will be replaced by the party high command in the BJP soon.

Yatnal’s fan pages continued to target BJP state unit Vice President B.Y. Vijayendra, the son of Chief Minister Yediyurappa.

His fan pages further added that Yediyurappa should come out openly stating why only Vijyendra’s name comes forward when there are thousands of ‘karyakartas’ (workers) working on the ground and even senior leaders are allocated responsibilities to ensure BJP’s victory in bypolls.

Taking a direct dig at Vijayendra, one of his fan pages said, “People of north Karnataka will not forgive those who are doing politics using his father’s name and speak ill about north Karnataka.”

Yatnal did not revert to several attempts to reach him.

He is one of the very few hardcore Hindutva leaders from the Lingyat community of Karnataka.

He is also one of the architects of the BJP gaining roots in this region, mainly due to his fiery speeches.

He is a legislator from the Bijapur city constituency, which has a sizeable Muslim voters. The Congress had mostly favoured to field Muslim candidates from this seat.

For his unabashed statements, he has even fallen out with the BJP in the past and was also expelled from the party for six years. When he was expelled, he had headed the JD(S) state unit as well.

Meanwhile, taking serious note of his statements, Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister K.S. Eshwarappa demanded that the party should expel Yatnal without even seeking any explanation from him. “He is known for making such statements,” he said.

BJP’s national general secretary C.T. Ravi stated that the party high command is capable of tackling such issues.

“Yatnal is a senior leader. I have not reached his level. I do not want to speak about him. But one thing is clear that the party high command is watching this development very closely,” he said.

Meanwhile, BJP state unit President Nalin Kumar Kattel took to Twitter to assert that there is no vacancy for CM’s post for the next three years. “Our leader is Yediyurappa and he will be CM for next three years,” he said.

Israeli forces have killed at least eight Palestinians and injured 35 others in an attack on the occupied West Bank city of Jenin, prompting Hamas to call for full mobilization of Palestinian youths against the occupation forces.

Palestinian media reported that the regime’s forces, backed by helicopters, raided Jenin and its refugee camp on Tuesday morning following several drone strikes.

The spokesman for the Palestinian security forces, Anwar Rajab, said in a statement that Israeli forces had "opened fire on civilians and security forces, resulting in injuries to several civilians and a number of security personnel, one of whom is in critical condition".

Israel’s military also confirmed that its soldiers, police and intelligence services had begun an operation, which Benjamin Netanyahu, the prime minister, described as a "large and significant" operation to "eradicate terrorism.”

The attack on Jenin, where the regime’s forces have carried out multiple raids and large-scale incursions over the past year, comes only two days after the start of a long-awaited ceasefire between Israel and the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas.

Hamas said in a statement that people in Gaza “mourn the martyrs of Jenin who fell to the fire and bombardment of the occupation.”

The resistance group also urged Jenin’s “rebellious youth to mobilize and escalate confrontations with the Israeli army.”

Hamas said that the offensive “launched by the occupation in Jenin will fail, just like all its previous military operations against our people,” in Gaza.

The resistance group, which fought Israeli forces for 741 days in the besieged Gaza Strip, said its unprecedented operation against the occupied territories in October 2023, was “the final nail in the coffin of the collapsing Israeli regime.”

Mangaluru: In a brazen daylight robbery, a group of five to six armed individuals stormed into the Kotekar Vyavasaya Sahakara Seva Sangha branch at KC Road, Ullal taluk, and escaped with valuables estimated at ₹10-12 crore.

The incident occurred between 11:30 am and 12:30 pm, according to Police Commissioner Anupam Agrawal. The masked robbers, aged between 25-35, were armed with a pistol, talwar, and knife. They threatened the four to five employees present, forcing them to open the vault containing jewellery and other valuables.

The suspects spoke in Hindi and Kannada and fled the scene in a black Fiat car. Commissioner Agrawal confirmed that multiple police teams have been formed, and efforts are underway to track the culprits using technical surveillance and other leads.

CM Siddaramaiah Holds Emergency Meeting

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah convened a high-level meeting with senior police officials, including IGP Amit Singh, Commissioner Anupam Agrawal, SP Yathish N, and DySP, following the robbery.

Expressing dissatisfaction over security lapses, Siddaramaiah questioned, "How did this happen despite officials being present? Why were toll gates not secured?"

Officials reported that the bank had no security personnel and only five to six staff members on duty during the heist. The Chief Minister has directed authorities to enhance security across four districts, intensify checks at toll gates, and arrest the accused swiftly to ensure stringent legal action.

The US consulate in Bengaluru will hold its ‘site-dedication ceremony’ on January 17, with officials confirming that the location of the upcoming consulate will be disclosed during the event. Sources indicate that the site could be in either the Central Business District or Whitefield.

While the consulate building is under development, visa services may temporarily begin at the JW Marriott hotel, which currently houses the United States Commercial Service (USCS) office.

Bengaluru has long advocated for the establishment of a US consulate, and with its opening, residents of the city and Karnataka will no longer need to travel to other states for their US visa applications.

It was in January of the previous year that External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, during his visit to Bengaluru, expressed his intention to urge the US Ambassador to India to establish a consulate in the city. This move follows the announcement during Prime Minister Modi’s June 2023 visit to the US, where it was revealed that two new US consulates would open in Bengaluru and Ahmedabad, and India would set up a mission in Seattle.
