Mangaluru, Aug 20: A 37-year-old man has been arrested by the Cyber Economic and Narcotics Crime Police Station on charge of duping more than 138 job aspirants with a promise of jobs in KMF by collecting Rs 1.84 crore.

The arrested has been identified as Ramprasad Rao alias Harish alias Keshav alias Shashidhar from Salethur in Bantwal taluk of Dakshina Kannada.

The police have also booked three others Dr Hemanth from Mudigere, Surendra Reddy from Bengaluru and Darshan from Mangaluru, based on a complaint filed by Deviprasad.

In his complaint, he alleged that the accused had provided them with a fake appointment letter and ID card.

Deviprasad said after being unemployed for almost a year, through a friend he came to know about direct appointment jobs at KMF and he would have to pay a bribe for the job. He was introduced to a woman, who demanded Rs 1.80 lakh for the job and asked him to pay Rs 80,000 immediately. After he made the payments, he was given an appointment letter as a clerk.

Later on December 15, 2021, Ramprasad, Dr Hemanth alias Mallesh Jain, Surendra Reddy, and Darshan imparted training to 38 job aspirants at Malaraya Daivastana hall in Chilimbi.

Two more friends of the complainant showed interest to take up jobs and paid Rs 2.5 lakh for the assistant HR job and Rs 90,000 for a clerk’s job. The woman reportedly representing KMF also told the complainant that three officers' posts were available and three more persons-(complainant’s friends)paid Rs 3 lakh each.  One of them reportedly received an appointment letter.

They waited for a job till May and when they failed to get the jobs, they demanded refunds. A cheque of Rs 10.70 lakh was handed over to the complainant by the arrested and he accordingly made the refunds to his friends.

However, the following day, they received a call that jobs were available on payment of Rs 1 lakh. Two job aspirants had allegedly transferred the money to Ramprasad. Following this, six people received ID cards. However, they never got jobs.

The complainant has demanded action against those who duped the job aspirants.

A separate release from DKMUL MD said that the case has nothing to do with the DKMUL. The DKMUL is in favour of the farmers and is functioning in a transparent manner.

The DKMUL has made an appeal to the Commissioner of Police to take strict action against those involved in the fraud.

The Palestinian Hamas resistance movement says its fighters have killed at least 20 Israeli soldiers in northern parts of the besieged Gaza Strip in just two days, in retaliation for the occupying regime’s genocidal war on the Palestinian territory.

In a statement on Monday evening, Hamas said that fighters of its military wing, al-Qassam Brigades, “killed at least five occupation soldiers” in northern parts of the coastal territory earlier in the day.

It added that Hamas fighters also killed 15 Israeli soldiers in the war-ravaged region on Sunday.

The resistance movement’s “qualitative operation … confirms once again the failure of the criminal Zionist entity to suppress and eradicate the Palestinian resistance, which continues to direct qualitative strikes against its terrorist soldiers,” Hamas further said on its Telegram channel.

Palestinians have increased their resistance operations in the face of intensified Israeli aggression in northern Gaza that has claimed the lives of more than 1,000 over the past weeks.

“Our valiant resistance is waging a war of attrition with the criminal enemy, inflicting daily losses on its soldiers and vehicles, and all of [Israeli prime minister Benjamin] Netanyahu’s bets and dreams of achieving any of his goals are failing,” the Gaza-based resistance movement added.

Hamas also vowed that Israel’s ongoing crimes and aggression against Gaza would be met with increased resistance and painful strikes, which will continue until the aggression against Palestinians ends and the regime fully withdraws from the blockaded territory.

As the war in Gaza enters its 14th month, the Health Ministry reports that Israeli attacks have killed at least 43,603 Palestinians and wounded 102,929 others.

Mangaluru: A tragic incident unfolded on Sunday, November 17, at Vazco Resort (VAZCO), situated at Battappadi Cross Road in Someshwara on the outskirts of the city, when three young women drowned in the resort’s swimming pool.

Disturbingly, an iPhone recording and CCTV footage captured their final moments, providing insights into the heartbreaking accident.

According to City Police Commissioner Anupam Agrawal, the tragedy occurred at approximately 10:05 AM. The victims were identified as:

Keerthana N (21) from Devaraj Mohalla, Hebbal Second Stage, Vijayanagar Post.
Nishitha M.D (21) from 4th Cross, Kuribarahalli, Mysuru.
Parvathi S (20) from Ramanuja Road, K.R. Mohalla, Mysuru.

Sequence of Events

The three women had checked into Room No. 2 of the resort on the morning of November 16 and stayed overnight. On Sunday morning, around 10 AM, they entered the swimming pool to play. Reports suggest that they placed their clothes poolside and set an iPhone to record the activity.

Initial findings indicate one woman slipped underwater and began to struggle. When the second attempted a rescue, she too drowned, followed by the third woman. Within minutes, the tragedy claimed all three lives. CCTV footage from the resort corroborates the sequence, showing the young women struggling before succumbing to the water.

Investigation Underway

The resort staff discovered the lifeless bodies and immediately raised the alarm. Ullal Police Inspector H N Balakrishna and his team are conducting an investigation. Preliminary reports suggest the women were non-swimmers, and the lack of safety measures contributed to the tragedy.

The resort is owned by Manohar, as per police records. While the formal case is yet to be registered, the incident has raised serious questions about safety protocols at resorts offering pool facilities.

Bengaluru: Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has instructed the Hindu Religious Endowment Department to submit a proposal for constructing a gold chariot for the presiding deity of the state, Chamundeshwari, official sources said on Monday.

The directive follows a request from Member of Legislative Council (MLC) Dinesh Gooligowda, who highlighted the historical and cultural significance of the Chamundeshwari Temple on Chamundi Hill in Mysuru, which dates back to the 12th century AD.

Gooligowda noted that the existing wooden chariot, donated by devotees from Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, has deteriorated over time.

“Devotees have expressed their desire to organise a ‘rathotsava’ using a gold chariot for Goddess Chamundeshwari. This proposal has been under consideration for some time, with an estimated cost of Rs 100 crore,” the MLC said.

He emphasised that the government’s financial involvement would not be required, as devotees are willing to contribute towards making the chariot a reality.

Gooligowda proposed a deadline for the 2025 Dasara festival for the completion of the chariot, ensuring it is ready for the grand procession featuring the idol of Chamundeshwari.
