Mangaluru, Feb 1: Sleuths of Konaje Police Station under the limits of Mangaluru City Police Commissionerate have arrested a man for allegedly sexually assaulting an 18-year-old deaf and mute girl.
Police commissioner N Shashi Kumar said that the accused, a local resident, entered the house of the victim under the limits of Konaje Police Station when her family members had been to the temple.
The accused escaped when he saw the victim’s uncle returning to the house. The woman was sent for medical examination after police took up the case.
“The accused was aware that the victim is deaf and mute and hence he tried to take advantage of the situation when there was no one else at the house,” the top cop said.
He said that he has noticed that there are several isolated houses in the rural areas here under the limits of commissionerate.
“If anyone finds suspicious movement of a person, inform the police. We can detain them for questioning. There is nothing wrong in questioning. It is better take preventive measure before any untoward incident takes place,” he said.
